Bird Repeller Spikes

Posted by admin

In principle, the simplest concept in bird repeller solutions is: if the bird can’t sit, rest or perch at a particular spot, they won’t be there long enough to leave their mess.

Homes and buildings have many spots where birds can perch or roost. Single family homes have eaves, gutters, chiminies, roofs, railings, patios, even satellite dishes or antenna where birds have a tendency to stop and sit. Apartments and condos have balconies, car ports, awnings and other areas.

If there is a flat spot where a bird can roost, the most effective bird repeller is bird spikes. These are polycarbonate or stainless steel bird spikes. They present a surface that is uncomfortable for the bird to land on – they do not hurt or injur the bird.

A strip of bird spikes is long lasting, safe and has a very minimal visual impact to your property because they are very thin spikes and typically are mounted on the roof, gutter or beams that are well above eye level. You defintely should plan where you place them so that they are not an eyesore or have the possiblity of being damaged, by tree limbs for example.

For a house with a standard peaked roof, or even a dormer type window, you may want a strip of bird spikes across that roof or dormer peak. Similarly, with your chiminey, you can attach spikes to your spark arrestor. Even a strip of spikes across your satellite dish can keep birds off of it very effectively.

We recommend, of course, that you only use these means when you have an actual bird problem. If you have one beam the extends beyond your roofline and it is popular with birds, use bird spikes on that specific area – no need to target your entire roof. It is possible that the birds might move to a different area of the roof, but if that area does not allow the birds to mess the ground area that you frequently use, then no need to bother with bird spikes on those other areas of the roof.

With bird spikes keeping the roosting birds away from those prime resting areas, you’ll realize many benefits, including:

  •     Saving insulation, siding, and roofs from replacement or repair
  •     Increasing property aesthetics and value by eliminated bird damage
  •     Decreasing aesthetic and surface damage to ledging, fencing, vehicles.
  •    Eliminating destructive, corrosive droppings
  •     Eliminating costly repairs
